NFL Draft Quick Takes

1. The Browns cannot miss on another QB. If I were them I would draft either USC QB Sam Darnold or UCLA QB Josh Rosen. Those are your safest choices in franchise QBs and either could sit for a year behind recently acquired Tyrod Taylor.

2. Wyoming QB Josh Allen will be a bust. Yes he has incredible arm strength but he also has incredibly sketchy accuracy. He is Joe Flacco at best and Jamarcus Russel at worst.

3. Lamar Jackson will be the steal of the draft. In the right offensive system, Jackson will be Mike Vick level dynamic. All the talk of him switching to WR is a joke.

4. The hometown Redskins should take the best player available at any position. Linebacker, running back, safety, corner and wide receiver should all be under consideration. I wouldn’t rule out drafting a QB either. Yes they just traded for Alex Smith but he is 34 years old and likely in the twilight years of his career.

5. The Jets should pull the trigger on Baker Mayfield. It would be a big time risk but bringing in Teddy Bridgewater should help give them the confidence to go for it all by drafting the Oklahoma QB who’s floor is Johnny Manziel but his ceiling is Drew Brees.

Wizards Fall Short In Toronto

The Wizards couldn’t overcome the depth of the first seed Toronto Raptors losing the critical game 5 108 to 98. John Wall brought his A game, dominating stretches with his mid range jumper and play making ability. Wall finished just shy of a trouble double with 26 points 9 rebounds and 9 assist. Unfortunately for the Wizards Wall was the only player to bring his A game to Toronto. Bradley Beal went 8 for 20 from the field for 20 points but vanished through key stretches of the game. The same could be said of 100 million dollar forward Otto Porter Jr. who had only 9 points in the loss. For Toronto it was again the DeMar DeRozen show. The All Star guard had 32 points on 50 percent shooting from the field. Reserve guard Delon Wright had a huge game for the Raptors with 18 big points off the bench. Toronto showed off the depth that led them to the number one seed in the East while the Wizards will be facing elimination back in D.C. Friday night.

Wizards Weekend – The Wizards Even Their First Round Series Against The Toronto Raptors

What a difference a weekend and a couple of home games makes. The Washington Wizards take games 3 and 4 at home against the Toronto Raptors to even up the series at 2-2.  Game 3 was a physical affair that saw John Wall and Bradley Beal score 28 points a piece to outgun Toronto 122 to 103.

Game 4 saw a more competitive affair which saw Toronto superstar swing man DeMar DeRozen drop 35. However, the Wizards were able to neutralize Toronto’s X-factor off the bench, guard C.J. Miles. Miles has been killing the Wizards with his 3-point shooting off the bench but in game 4 was held in check to just 1 of 4 shooting and finished with just 2 points.

John Wall was dominant from start to finish with 27 points and 14 assists. Bradley Beal had 31 points before fouling out at a critical point late in the 4th quarter on a questionable blocking foul. Even without Beal down the stretch, the Wizards leaned on John Wall to close out Toronto along with key contributions from Kelly Oubre and Marcin Gortat. The series will head back to Toronto Wednesday night where both teams will look to take control of the now very competitive series.Quick Takes:

Toronto is really missing back up point guard Fred Vanfleet. Who would have thought a G- League player would be so valuable to the number one seed in the East.

Ty Lawson was an excellent pick up for the Wizards. Pairing him and John Wall gives you tremendous quickness in your back court. Scott Brooks has played both of them together at various points in the series. Back up point guard has been a weak point for the Wizards for the past couple of seasons.

Kyle Lowry doesn’t look to be the All Star level player he once was. I only see one superstar on Toronto and that’s DeMar DeRozen.

Both of these teams are evenly matched. I think the Wizards stars are better than Toronto’s however the Raptors have a deeper and better team as a whole. Both these teams are built under a similar blueprint which makes this first round match up so intriguing.

The Wizards are clearly not better without John Wall. That’s never been more clear. Wall is carrying this team on both ends of the floor and proving why he is the man in D.C.

Wizards Continue to Win Without John Wall by Christopher Johnson (Posted February 4, 2018)

The Washington Wizards continue to be red hot as they lay the smack down on the Orlando Magic 115 to 98.  All 5 of Washington’s starters scored in double figures, led by Otto Porter with a game high 20.  All Star guard Bradley Beal had an efficient 18 points on 8 of 15 shooting. Tomas Satoransky had a huge 19 points including shooting 3 of 3 from downtown.  Markieff Morris continued his improved play with 16 points, as he looks to finally be healthy. If the Wizards can continue to get balanced contributions from their scorers, they can make a serious run in the eastern conference.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are in shambles right now leaving the door wide open for teams like Toronto, Boston and yes the Washington Wizards.

Wizards Fall to Bucks at Home on MLK Day (Posted January 15, 2018)

By Christopher Johnson, Black Men In America.com Sports

The Washington Wizards fell short at the Capital One Arena against the Milwaukee Bucks at home 104 to 95 on Martin Luther King, Jr., day. The Wizards struggled to overcome 24 turnovers and a monster 27 point and 20 rebound effort from MVP candidate, the “Greek Freak” Giannis Antetokounmpo.  The length of the Bucks team in general provides a tough match up for the Wizards who get a majority of their points from their dynamic back-court. John Wall led the way for the Wizards with 27 points and 9 assists. Beal added 19 points of his won but was just 1 of 7 from the 3 point line.

Quick Takes

*Kelly Oubre added a big 19 points off the bench for the Wizards. His aggressiveness and energy is invaluable to this team moving forward. It’s easy to see why he is becoming a fan favorite here in D.C.

*Markieff Morris continues to struggle since returning from injury earlier this season. They need his production if the Wizards hope to be a real threat moving forward come playoff time.

*Eric Bledsoe had 23 points tonight and has been a great addition for the Bucks after being traded from the Suns. His athleticism was something sorely missing from the Bucks back-court and gives Giannis another star caliber player to play with.
