When you watch Deborah Silver perform, you see a gifted vocalist whose remarkable voice, confidence, and stage presence have earned her recognition throughout the music industry.

But behind the music is a deeply personal story of resilience, family, and an unwavering commitment to helping others.

I recently had the pleasure of interviewing Deborah on the Calculations Talk Show, and what began as a conversation about her musical career became something much more meaningful.

We talked about her personal journey, including the serious physical challenges that once left her confined to a wheelchair, and the determination that helped her return to performing.

We also discussed a subject that is especially close to her heart: her sister Marjie, who has been living with ALS for 18 years.

ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a progressive neurological disease that affects the nerve cells responsible for voluntary muscle movement.

During our conversation, Deborah shared how her sister’s illness has affected not only Marjie, but also her sister’s family and their entire family.

Her experience illustrates something that families facing serious illnesses understand all too well: the impact extends far beyond the person receiving the diagnosis.

For Deborah, that experience has become a powerful motivation to use her musical talents and public platform to support ALS awareness and research.

A Carnegie Hall Debut With a Greater Purpose

On October 11, 2026, Deborah will make her Carnegie Hall debut with “Deborah Silver & Fabulous Friends: Voices for ALS,” a special benefit concert at Zankel Hall in New York City.

Joining her will be legendary vocalist Dionne Warwick, Grammy Award-winning recording artist Jon Secada, his daughter and Broadway performer Mikaela Secada, and jazz vocalist Stella Cole.

The evening promises to bring together extraordinary musical talent in support of an important cause.

One hundred percent of ticket proceeds will support research toward finding a cure for ALS.

For Deborah, performing at Carnegie Hall represents an important career milestone. But the opportunity to raise funds and awareness for a disease that has affected her family for nearly two decades gives the evening a much deeper personal significance.

The Woman Behind the Music

What I enjoyed most about my conversation with Deborah was the opportunity to explore the woman behind the voice.

Her story is about more than overcoming adversity or achieving professional success. It is about how personal experiences can shape our priorities and inspire us to make a difference in the lives of others.

I invite you to watch our conversation and learn more about Deborah’s remarkable journey, her love for her family, and her determination to use the power of music to support the fight against ALS.
