Publisher’s Comments: When Chauncey Dunham of Dante Productions called me yesterday to announce that he had discovered a new talent, I took notice, as his track record of discovering talent is solid. When Chauncey told me that this new talent was coming out of the box singing Minnie Ripperton, I was like “hold the phone.” Singing a Minnie Ripperton song is a very “high bar.”
For those of you who are too young to remember, Minnie Ripperton is an iconic singer best known for her 1975 single “Lovin’ You” and her five-octave soprano range. I asked, “Who is this woman?”
Her name is Scherezada (Schery) Morales.
I put Schery to the test before I watched the video. I had two buddies in the office with me. I turned my chair around like they do on the TV show “The Voice.” I did not want to see her. I only wanted to listen to her sing. After the second run on the octave scale, I pounded the desk and turned my chair around. Truth be told, I could have turned my chair around the first time Schery hit the high notes. All of us were impressed with Schery’s rendition of “Loving You.”
