Welcome to the new Black Men In America.com. The Internet has changed since we first launched our site in 2001. So much more is available to consumers with the introductions of Smartphones, High Speed Internet and other personal devices that there is less of a need for us to store tons of information and links to sites that are available at the swipe of a finger or a click of a mouse.
Black Men In America.com has evolved from a news site focusing on black men to a well-rounded social, current events and political website featuring content that people want to share and talk about. We have thought-provoking content that aims to educate, entertain and inspire our site visitors to become good citizens and role models in their community.
There will be growing pains. As you navigate the site please know that we are open to your feedback as we try and find a safe place to land.
As always, we appreciate your continued support.
Gary A. Johnson, Founder & Publisher
Black Men In America.com was conceived in 1995 by Gary A. Johnson, who was flying from Las Vegas back home to DC the day of the Million Man March. Gary saw the Internet as “the great equalizer” allowing him to provide a forum and a voice to the voiceless when it came to issues of interest to black men. He had plenty of ideas and content and after 6 years officially launched the site in January 2001.
Today, Black Men In America.com is one of the hottest web sites on the Internet. We are 100% black owned and feature ordinary men and women, living extraordinary lives.
We believe in diverse views and opinions and post content to reflect that. We have visitors from over 92 countries from around the world. We are proud of that. One of our goals is to be inclusive. Don’t let the name of the site fool you. Our goal is to unite and focus on issues that we believe are unique to black men and in many cases black people. Many of the things we get involved with are relevant to all people. That’s a good thing.
Approximately 45% of our site visitors are women. We offer our visitors a forum to exchange information on a variety of subjects and issues.
According to Alexa Internet, the premier Internet ranking service and Ranking.com, Black Men In America.com is consistently ranked as one of the Top 10 most popular web sites (online community) on the Internet in the Ethnic/African/African-American category. As of November 2014 site users were up 35% from the last quarter. The site has a “reach” of approximately 15-20 million users per day and gets approximately 2.3 million hits per month and growing.
There are several web sites aimed at Black men and their needs. We were one of the first of its kind and remain active in the community. We offer a variety of resources for men including commentary, current events, health & fitness and relationship advice and more.
We believe that education is one of the keys to success in life, along with good role models and mentors. We are using the Internet to leverage our network of people and organizations to help us deliver seminars, workshops and mentoring programs to educate, train and prepare role models who will motivate and improve the circumstances of young people in our community.
