President Joe Biden passed the “torch” of the next presidency to Vice President Kamal Harris a few days ago and addressed the nation Wednesday night in a solemn speech from the Oval Office and explained why he abandoned his reelection campaign.
The President wanted to send a clear and unmistakable warning about Donald Trump who is seeking to become President again by winning the presidential election in November.
Biden seemed a little “pissed off” in my view that a growing number of Democrats had been telling him to “pass the torch” to a younger generation. Along the way, Biden adopted the Michelle Obama philosophy of taking the high road and doing what is best for the country, something that he has done many times throughout his 50+ years in politics. “I’ve decided the best way forward is to pass the torch to a new generation. It’s the best way to unite our nation.” I interpreted Joe’s body language as saying, “I was capable of serving a second term.”
In conclusion, Joe Biden made the ultimate sacrifice and decided that democracy is in jeopardy and fighting and preserving democracy is more important that holding on the job of being President.
As a result, Harris raised $231 million dollars shattering all previous fundraising by the Democratic party. A large percentage of that money has come from small and NOT corporate donations.
The Thought Brothers and their guest Carl Jones, President of the Flagler County Democratic Caucus (Florida) discussed the transition, what citizens need to do and the impact this “passing of the torch” will have on the country.
