On this episode of Seeking Truth and Justice, host Lawrence Lucas sits down with Robbie Robinson Hutchens, a licensed marriage and family therapist and Dr. Waymon Hinson, a licensed psychologist, marriage and family therapist, researcher, and an advocate in matters related to social justice for oppressed and marginalized people. Hutchens and Hinson shared aspects of their groundbreaking presentation, “Against All Odds: The Making of the Black Farmer Movement,” delivered at the Christian Scholars Conference in Abilene, Texas (June 2025).
The conversation highlights:
–Stories of Resistance — decades of Black farmers fighting USDA discrimination and systemic racism
–The role of allies and advocates — white voices who stood alongside Black farmers in pursuit of justice
–The power of researchers, journalists, and media sources who exposed the truth
–An introduction to the innovative “ecomap” concept, providing a visual framework designed to help people understand the origins, resilience, and present-day realities of the Black farmer movement.
The interview further explores how white allies and advocates have stood alongside Black farmers in this ongoing struggle. The struggle isn’t over. Black farmers still face systemic challenges today.
