Chauncey Dunham has never been content to do what everyone else is doing. His goal is always to create something different, and his final production of the year represents the culmination of an entire year’s worth of creative work.
Black Diamonds & Pearls is more than a concert—it is a complete entertainment experience designed to blend sophisticated live jazz, elegance, fashion, culture, and artistic storytelling into one unforgettable production.
The vision was born following the success and overwhelmingly positive audience response to For the Love of Quincy. After that production concluded, Chauncey, CEO of A Dante Production, began asking Gary Johnson and Donna M. Gray-Banks an important creative question:
“What comes next?”
While reflecting on future productions, Chauncey overheard a conversation involving Gary’s wife about Prince—his dynamic stage presence, fearless fashion choices, musical genius, and unique ability to merge style with sound. That conversation sparked an idea.
The concept suddenly became clear: Create a production where music and fashion share the same stage.

From that inspiration, Black Diamonds & Pearls was born—a “show within a show” that combines:
- Upscale live jazz performances
- Elegant fashion presentations
- Sophisticated stage production
- Original music releases
- Cultural expression and class
- VIP experiences and artist interaction
The title itself symbolizes beauty, strength, rarity, elegance, and excellence. Black diamonds represent uniqueness, resilience, and brilliance, while pearls symbolize timeless sophistication and enduring class. Together, they define the spirit of the production.
The show is designed for audiences who appreciate:
- High-quality entertainment
- Musical artistry
- Fashion and elegance
- Mature social experiences
- A touch of class
Featuring performances by The Touch of Class Orchestra and guided by the creative vision of A Dante Production, Black Diamonds & Pearls is intended to become a signature experience that elevates jazz entertainment beyond the traditional concert format.
It is not simply an event.
It is an atmosphere.
It is culture.
It is elegance in motion.
And for Chauncey Dunham, it is another example of a philosophy he has embraced throughout his career: “Without self-discipline, success is impossible. Period.”
If there is one thing that makes Dante tick, it is the relentless pursuit of excellence and the belief that every production should be better than the one before it.

Part 2

Can you imagine what it’s like to work alongside two other visionaries?
For most creative people, the dream is to be surrounded by individuals who understand innovation, growth, and the power of new ideas. People who not only think differently, but who challenge one another to think bigger.
I have the privilege of working with both Donna M. Gray-Banks and Gary Johnson, and for me, that is truly a dream come true.
I am the kind of person who wakes up with new ideas in the middle of the night. Creativity never really turns off. Gary Johnson is much the same way. He is constantly creating, developing, and building new projects, often while the rest of the world is sleeping.
Donna brings a different, yet equally valuable, gift to the table. She has a unique ability to recognize potential in ideas that have not yet been fully developed. She listens, asks questions, and helps shape raw concepts into meaningful initiatives that can inspire and impact others.
When you look at Fresh Book Festival, Gary Johnson Media, and A Dante Production, you might never imagine that three organizations with different missions could work together so seamlessly. Yet somehow, we have found a way to combine our strengths in a manner that contributes to the cultural growth of our community and our city.
Together, we have raised expectations. People are increasingly embracing fresh ideas because they have grown tired of the ordinary. We understand that culture evolves when creative minds are willing to challenge convention, introduce new perspectives, and bring fresh energy to the table.
What excites me most is that this collaboration never stops. New ideas are discussed almost daily. We are constantly researching, planning, creating, and exploring what comes next.
That is what happens when creative people unite around a common purpose.
Innovation becomes a lifestyle rather than an occasional event.
The future is exciting because we are not afraid to think differently, move differently, and create differently. We understand that progress belongs to those willing to imagine what others cannot yet see.
