Few people have influenced the entertainment industry from behind the scenes as profoundly as Angelo Ellerbee.
For more than four decades, Ellerbee has helped shape the public images, careers, and professional development of some of the world’s most recognizable artists. While audiences celebrated chart-topping performances and award-winning careers, Angelo Ellerbee was often the strategist helping talented individuals prepare for the opportunities that accompanied success.
His work demonstrates an important truth: talent may open the door, but preparation, discipline, image, and professionalism determine how long someone remains in the room.
Born in Newark, New Jersey, Ellerbee began his professional journey in fashion before transitioning into publicity and artist relations. His early work with the late James Mtume helped establish a reputation for exceptional attention to detail, strategic communications, and artist development—qualities that would become the hallmark of an extraordinary career.
In 1985, he founded Double XXposure Public Relations, a firm that would become one of the entertainment industry’s premier public relations and artist development agencies. Throughout his career, Ellerbee has worked with an impressive roster of internationally recognized performers, including Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie, Dionne Warwick, Roberta Flack, Melba Moore, DMX, Ginuwine, Ronald Isley, Karen Clark Sheard, Laura Branigan, Shabba Ranks, Patra, and many others.
Yet those who know Angelo best often say his greatest contribution extends beyond publicity.
He became known as one of the entertainment industry’s premier architects of artist development. Long before personal branding became a business buzzword, Ellerbee was teaching performers how to communicate effectively, conduct interviews, represent themselves professionally, and navigate rooms occupied by executives, political leaders, and global influencers. His philosophy emphasized that success requires more than talent—it demands preparation, character, confidence, and consistency.
His leadership eventually expanded to executive roles within the recording industry, including serving as Senior Vice President of Publicity at Island Def Jam Records and later leading DMX’s Bloodline Records. Throughout each chapter of his career, he remained committed to helping artists maximize both their creative gifts and their professional potential.
Beyond entertainment, Ellerbee has authored several books focused on leadership, purpose, personal growth, and professional excellence. His commitment to community service has also remained central to his legacy through his advocacy within the LGBTQ+ community and his longstanding support of nonprofit organizations and civic initiatives. In 2024, his hometown of Newark honored his contributions by renaming a street in recognition of his remarkable career and enduring impact.
