ROOTED IN THE CUT — The Conversation After The Screening | Thought Brothers Podcast

0

What happens when a community sees its own story on screen — and then sits down to talk about it?
This special episode captures the raw, honest, and powerful conversation that followed the community screening of Rooted In The Cut.

The Thought Brothers bring together voices from the local NAACP, Seeking Insights For Solutions, Mr. Toney’s Barber Shop, community leaders, and audience members who witnessed the documentary firsthand. What unfolds is more than a panel discussion — it’s a reflection on identity, legacy, entrepreneurship, and the cultural importance of the Black barbershop.

The barbershop has always been more than a chair and clippers.

–It’s where conversations begin.
–Where young men are mentored.
–Where community issues are debated.
–Where culture, business, and brotherhood intersect.

In this episode, the panel discusses:

–Emotional reactions to the documentary
–Why Black barbershops remain cultural anchors
–The economics of keeping dollars circulating in the community
–The role of barbers as mentors and trusted voices
–What happens when storytelling sparks real dialogue

This conversation is part of an ongoing Ed-U-Tain-Ment documentary series produced by Gary Johnson Media LLC, created to educate, inspire, and elevate community voices through meaningful storytelling.

The Thought Brothers Podcast features three diverse men who rotate as Host and talk about relevant and current topics of interest to a diverse audience of men and women.  The Thought Brothers consists of William “Bill” Spivey, a retired FBI Special Agent, Christopher “C.J.” Johnson, a Social Media Commentator and Carlos Prillman, a Financial Analyst.

Their goal is to:

  • Objectively discuss issues of interest to our community
  • Inspire a “Call To Action” and model the appropriate behavior for others
  • Educate, motivate, provide a sense of caring towards those who are less fortunate
  • Have fun!
