Tony Award® winner and three-time Grammy nominee The Marvelous Melba Moore is returning to 54 Below (254 W 54th St. NYC 10019) with her one-woman show on Wednesday, July 9th and Thursday, July 10th, 2025.
“Melba Moore: From Broadway, With Love” is the music icon’s “love letter” to the great ladies of music and stage. From Lena Horne to Barbra Streisand, Liza Minnelli to Diahann Carroll as well as Ms. Moore’s trailblazing path on Broadway, she honors all aforementioned greats as well as her own legacy. Raised in NYC with professional musicians as parents, Ms. Moore stepped into the industry singing background vocals for the likes of Frank Sinatra and Aretha Franklin which lead to her Broadway debut succeeding Diane Keaton in the musical, “Hair.” She went on to play recurring roles in several hit Broadway productions, including her celebrated portrayal of Lutiebelle in the musical, “Purlie,” which earned Ms. Moore the Tony Award in 1970 for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical. Accompanied by a band trio and a visual pictorial presentation of selected photographs and images, “Melba Moore: From Broadway With Love” is a presentation of a variety of songs, including selected classics from many legends of stage as well as Ms. Moore’s own works.
