Husband and Wife Team Launch New Film Company

North Carolina-based husband-and-wife team Ihsaan and Ellisa York, with a background in music video and commercial ad production spanning several years, have launched their new company, House of York Productions.

In a media landscape where many film production companies focus on a single genre or niche, House of York Productions aims to deliver movies and specials that reflect a diverse population eager for relatable stories. “In this day and age of streaming services, people are curious,” explains Ellisa York. “They aren’t just looking for stories about themselves; they want stories that speak to them.”

Gary Johnson host of Calculations Talk Show and The Thought Brothers recently interviewed Ellisa and Ihsaan to talk about their journey.

The roots of House of York Productions can be traced back to Ihsaan York’s earlier venture, Art of Darkness Filmworks, which he co-founded with his brother Rakim. Together, they spent years producing and directing music videos. Eventually, Ihsaan set his sights on motion picture production, leading to the creation of the screenplay for an upcoming film, The Murder Roulette. The project garnered interest from the Showtime Network as well as Hollywood managers and agents.

Amid this whirlwind of opportunities, Ihsaan and Ellisa remained committed to retaining full ownership of The Murder Roulette. Ihsaan reflects, “If all I wanted was to make the movie or be around famous people, we could have made a deal. But I wanted more—for The Murder Roulette and for us.” Thus, House of York Productions was born.

The company’s immediate focus is assembling a team of writers, cinematographers, and crew to produce a slate of movies and specials in 2025, starting with The Murder Roulette. Another priority is the development of their streaming channel, Cinema Noir, which will serve as the primary platform for their works. “Cinema Noir is under the House of York Films umbrella,” explains Ihsaan. “Through this channel, we aim to responsibly leverage our platform to promote tolerance, inspiration, and benevolence through media. This isn’t just entertainment; it’s a transformative tool for reshaping human consciousness by showcasing positive and powerful Black and Brown characters.”
