The Paris Olympics and Snoop Dogg (It Doesn’t Get Any More Mainstream Than This)

By Gary A. Johnson

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, Snoop Dogg is EVERYWHERE when it comes to Olympic coverage.  He’s been sporting sunglasses in the stands with Noah Lyles’s mother, wading in the pool with Olympic swimming legend Michael Phelps, hooping it up with the U.S. men’s basketball team, dancing with the GOAT Simone Biles and hanging with swimming great Katie Ledecky.  Snoop has also served as a correspondent for other events including fencing, judo, equestrian competitions and badminton.

For many of us, Snoop being mainstream is not new.  This started over 3 decades ago when the D-O-Double-G was featured in a Chrysler car commercial with then Chrysler CEO Lee Iacocca.

Snoop Dogg, has come a long way.  From being one of the most prominent gangsta rappers of the West Coast hip-hop scene, to carrying the Olympic torch at the opening ceremony of the Olympic games in Paris.

I haven’t even touched on Snoop’s long relationship with Martha Stewart or the long list of products that he endorses.

My favorite Snoop moment is his video with Marvin Gaye.  Thanks to technology, Snoop is featured in Marvin Gaye’s live version of his iconic hit “What’s Going On?”
