Most men like to have one last huzzah with their friends before their big day, but bachelor parties tend to get a bad rep. For most people, though, the only real downside to throwing a big bash is the cost to both the couple and their party. According to a recent survey, some of us spend as much as 35% of a possible down payment on a median-priced home on destination bachelor parties. When you think of it in those terms, the idea of a blowout bash seems foolish. If you got it like that, do your thing. But for a lot of us, there are way better things we could be spending our money on. To save you and your friends some cash, here are some affordable, fun, and safe ideas for an unforgettable bachelor party.
Go Camping for a Weekend
There’s no better way to feel like a real man than spending some bonding time with friends out in the wilderness. As long as you all have the right equipment, you need only pay a rental fee for space in a local camping ground. In some cases, you may be able to set up your tent for free. If you don’t have everything you need, you can always rent high-quality camping gear for a minimal cost. Be sure to stock up on plenty of beer and some campfire-friendly foods such as kabobs or s’mores.
Plan a Scavenger Hunt
If you’re a member of the groom’s party, you can rally everyone together and plan a scavenger hunt for the day of the bachelor party. This is a fun and free way to spend some time with the boys, and it can be easily personalized to include inside jokes, the groom’s interests and hobbies, or other friends that you both know. At the end of everything, you can reward yourself and relax with a beer and a steak dinner.
Host Your Own Casino Night
You don’t necessarily need to book a flight to Vegas to have Vegas-style fun. You can bring Sin City to your bachelor party by stocking the home bar, cooking up some tasty finger foods, and breaking out the cards and poker chips. You can even hire entertainment, though it’s important to make sure that everybody is on board with the choice before making a booking. And to make the night even more fancy, you can always have your celebration on a rooftop, especially if you’re in a city like New York with breath-taking views.
Expensive destination bachelor parties can be a daunting financial burden. Planning an affordable bachelor party can help both a wedding couple and their guests to avoid breaking the bank or digging into savings. Going camping, planning a scavenger hunt, and hosting a Vegas-themed evening are all fun and inexpensive ways to celebrate before the big day arrives.
