Literary Corner Spotlight: Angie BEE and Bartee

I Am an Author

Angie BEE & Bartee are a husband-and-wife author team that transparently writes from their hearts and experiences.  Married in August 2013, their first book entitled: In the Beginning:  There was God, Me & You shares their testimony on how God brought them together.

Angie BEE & Bartee also work together to narrate and produce audio-books!  Prior to meeting Bartee, Angie BEE was known globally as “Da Queen Bee”, an award-winning Christian radio show host that exclusively featured Holy Hip Hop/Christian Rap music.

Bartee was known throughout parts of Georgia, Ohio and Florida as “The Rage of The Stage” for his smooth jazz, R&B and vintage soul concerts.  He performed at corporate and family events, and even learned about Angie BEE and her evangelism tour as he was headed to perform a concert one night!

Angie BEE & Bartee Productions officially merged in 2019, resulting in some very hilarious incidents which, along with details of their first few years together, are now being composed in their second book, which will be completed soon.

It Is All About the Journey

Angie BEE actually wrote her first book in May of 2011.  Last Week, I Wanted to Die details her journey of navigating through mental illness and attempted suicide.  She actually presented a copy of her book to Bartee, during one of their first dates.

From 2010 to 2013, Angie BEE contributed a monthly article to Large in Charge magazine (now discontinued).  When the online magazine ceased to publish, Angie BEE gathered all of her articles about her gastric bypass surgery, received a blessing from the publisher, and self-published her second book entitled The Evolution of Da Queen BEE.

In 2017, Angie BEE began to post a daily affirmation on Facebook entitled “My Morning Glory.”  Generally filled with things that she experienced with Bartee, her posts were simple; others were comical.  Angie BEE began to realize that the process of writing a book begins with the regular, small contributions that take root, grow, and turn into chapters.

Two years ago, Bartee decided that he wanted to have a radio show.  Angie BEE suggested a weekly talk show on Facebook LIVE.  Gettin’ Over the Hump with Angie BEE & Bartee now airs Wednesdays at 7:00 PM EST.  Each episode reveals topics that people can reflect upon and how the couple overcomes some of life’s “humps.”  Tune in each week: search for Gettin’ Over the Hump with Angie BEE & Bartee.

Why Self-Publish

Angie BEE was encouraged to self-publish her second book.  She has referred to self publishing vs. a publishing company, as she refers to childbirth “they both hurt, but at least they give you a hand with the c-section!” That “hand” that she refers to is working with a publishing company.  If your goal is to write a book and sell it to a wider audience than your friends and family, let the publishing company handle it.

Angie BEE & Bartee do NOT recommend “boutique” publishers–those to which you have to pay thousands of dollars.  “If you are going to pay them to publish your book, and then turn around and BUY copies of your own book to sell… you might as well self-publish.  You will save yourself money.”  Companies such as Ladero Press will actually PAY YOU to write your books.  “Have patience, keep your faith, and stay in your lane.”

Explain Your Multiple Genres

In the Beginning: There was God, Me & You is the non-fiction, true love story between Angie BEE & Bartee.  The story is not only told from each point of view, but it is supported and enhanced by scripture and prayer.

The second book that Angie BEE & Bartee are working on will be their first contribution to the Christian Romance genre.  As with all marriages, challenges arise.  Some situations in married life come from growing pains, and others come from outside sources.  Angie BEE & Bartee recognize that they cannot overcome ANY of these challenges without direction and grace from God.

How Do You Market Your Books?

Angie BEE & Bartee promote their book on their weekly Facebook LIVE show, Getting’ Over the Hump with Angie BEE & Bartee.  Along with local book festivals,  Angie BEE & Bartee make their books available during each workshop or conference that they bring, and they market their book(s) online on their website at www.DaQueenBee.com

When Angie accepts a new friend request on Facebook, she thanks the person for sending the friend request.  She offers to pray with them and invites them to visit her website.  Many new friends have clicked on the link and learned of her book.  “If you establish yourself as an author from the initial meeting, you don’t have to try to sell your book to someone later,” she states.

Bartee promotes the book by telling everyone that he meets.  “Hey, I have a book.  It’s only $10.  Gimme $10, and I will give you the book!” LOL

What Was Your First Featured Author Experience?

Bartee’s first author experience was during a speaking engagement in Atlanta, Georgia.  Angie BEE & Bartee were invited to speak at a marriage conference and book signing; several of their friends were in the audience.  Bartee enjoyed “telling it like it was” concerning the book, and Angie BEE was thrilled to speak by her husband’s side.  Autographing books together was a thrilling experience and helped inspire them to continue the path as authors and motivational speakers.

How Do You Invest In Yourself?

Bartee invests in himself by knowing his worth, and the value of being a partner in life and a true Man of God.  His investment?  He tells his story. He believes that everyone has their own story to tell, but you must put your story on paper, or no one will know just what you have been through!

Angie BEE invests in herself by praying, fasting and asking for God’s direction before sitting at the computer to compose a new chapter.  Angie BEE plans workshops where their book is prominently featured, and she conducts research to help make their writings more interesting to their readers.

Together, the duo also invests in quality recording equipment to narrate and produce audio-books for other authors in which the sound quality is unique and outstanding.

What Was The Hardest Lesson To Learn?

“If you ask me, the hardest lesson for us to learn (as authors) was to release some creative control over our project,” says Angie BEE.  “We argued with our publisher over our book cover design; we struggled over the design of the promotional videos and images.  We thought we knew how we wanted our book to look!  What we realized is that, our book needed to be groomed and grow into more than we could have imagined it to be.  We learned to trust our publisher and watch the process.”

Bartee says: “I still like my OWN book cover design ideas! LOL.”

How Have You Expanded Your Streams of Income?

Together, Angie BEE and Bartee Productions are blessed to receive the following streams of income:

  1. Book sales online and in-person through book signings and events.
  2. Narrate and produce audio-books for authors and publishing companies.
  3. Angie BEE designs event flyers, event directories and promotional videos for social media promotion.
  4. Bartee still performs concerts for families and corporate events.
  5. Angie BEE & Bartee lead outreach workshops and accept compensation for speaking engagements.
  6. Although their annual weekend retreat and beauty bazaar is a fundraiser, and not a stream of income, Angie BEE & Bartee are passionate about spreading Alopecia Awareness. Angie BEE was diagnosed with the auto-immune disease nearly 30 years ago and Bartee supports her efforts to speak, write and lead support groups, while raising funds for NAAF.org.  Register to join them in Daytona Beach, in September at www.BoldBeautifulAndBald.com or register as a vendor via email at BoldBeautifulAndBald@gmail.com
  7. Angie BEE conducts red carpet interviews at events, and Bartee is behind the camera.

Worst Advice Given?

Angie BEE & Bartee contemplated this question and agreed that there is no bad/worse advice.  It all depends on how it is used.  The decision is yours, and you must “live with the consequences of the decisions that you make.”

Best Advice Given?

Angie BEE & Bartee believe that the best advice they ever received came from God.  “Everybody has a story to share.  Your family may want to read it, your community leaders may want to acknowledge it, and our Lord and Savior gets the glory, because of it.”  Write your story.  Tell your story.  Share your story!

Pearl of Wisdom for Up and Coming Authors

Where dreams come together with opportunity, a chance for success follows.  Stories are conceived from your dreams.  Write them down and share them with others.” – Angie BEE & Bartee
